Improving Nutrition Outcomes in Patients through Digital Solutions
Nestlé Health Science collaborates with leading hybrid care enablement platform Amwell to connect patients with HCPs, supporting improved health and economic outcomes through innovative digital solutions focused on nutrition, starting with surgery.
In a world where technology is taking the healthcare landscape by storm and evolving at a rapid pace, adapting to the needs of patients in a way that is accessible, seamless, and cost-effective is essential. Consumers are getting more proactive about their health and using more tools; however, the cost of patient care keeps growing, which poses a challenge.
Creating our space in this landscape is crucial and will best be supported by teaming up with like-minded companies who share a common purpose for helping patients and consumers.
Partnership with Amwell, a Leader in Hybrid Healthcare Enablement
Nestlé Health Science has partnered with Amwell in a collaboration to help organizations improve patients’ overall health through innovative digital solutions focused on nutrition. By combining our offerings with Amwell's digital telemedicine platform, we anticipate improvements in clinical outcomes and healthcare economic variables (e.g., reduction in emergency department visits), while also making healthcare more user-friendly.
“Our goal is to improve health outcomes for patients, while also reducing the cost to and burden on healthcare systems through access to targeted, evidence-based nutrition solutions at scale,” said Florent Bondoux, global head of Digital, eHealth & eCommerce for Nestlé Health Science.
The Advanced Surgical Nutrition Automated Care Program
The first offering that launched in early October 2023 will be available in the U.S., and is an innovative, evidence-based program that combines Amwell’s automated virtual companion technology and Nestlé Health Science’s Impact ADVANCED RECOVERY® drink. This program will support the healing process and enhance recovery for patients undergoing major elective surgery.
Amwell’s platform is used by over 2K hospitals in the U.S., meaning this program has the potential to reach thousands of patients and support them in optimizing their perioperative nutritional needs.
“Bringing together Amwell’s empathetic, clinically intelligent, data-driven virtual companions and Nestlé Health Science’s nutritional drink, content, and services, will better prepare patients for surgery with the goal of improving outcomes while reducing hospital stays, risks of post-surgical complications, and cost. It is a great example of how technology plus nutrition can nourish those who need extra care,” said Murray Brozinsky, chief strategy officer, Amwell.
How the Program Works
Step 1:
Enrolled patients will receive the Impact ADVANCED RECOVERY® drink and participate in a digital program that provides education and consumption guidance.
Step 2:
The program will then evaluate the patient’s progress and adherence, prompting clinicians to intervene, when necessary. If this is the case, the patient will receive personalized support from an HCP at their fingertips, from the comfort of their own home.
A Bright Future Ahead for Personalized and Economical Patient Care
With this first step, we hope to help patients find the right product and benefit from the nutritional content and education to support them along their journey.
Working with Amwell and using our expertise in the science of nutrition at Nestlé Health Science, we plan to develop a portfolio of novel solutions to help improve the clinical and financial outcomes of patients. This first program is only the beginning.
